Lucknow: The literacy rate in India has always been an issue of concern but it is government’s apathy that no concrete steps have been initiated from government or private institutions to mount it. What’s more pathetic is the involvement of certain scams in the education sector which work as dent and an obstacle in building an erudite India. The situation is more dampening in the Uttar Pradesh state as the real traders of education can be easily witnessed here. In yet another sting operation conducted by Team Pardaphash, few faces have been unearthed who provide fake degrees of noted universities to students by charging a hefty amount.
 
Suchna Takniki Evam Prabandhan Sansthan (STEPS) works as a mediatory who with its smart marketing tactics, drags students on to the dishonest path. The website with url: stepsindia.info exhibits certain information which is luring for any student who desires of getting a degree by paying extra bucks. STEPS claim that they provide a legal degree affiliated to universities like CJM University, Jaipur National University, NIIMS University, Jodhpur National University, Manav Bharti University and Karnataka State Open University (KSOU).
 
Team Pardaphash member, who acted himself as a student, contacted one of the officials of STEP Anurag and met him in Lucknow’s Vikas Nagar office.
 
Pardaphash team member asked Anurag that he wants to do MBA from Jaipur National University (JNU). He added, he is a below average student and hence will face problem in passing the exam. He asked him to show a way to pass the examination on which Anurag said that you will receive the question papers at your home.
 
Pardaphash team member showed his dissatisfaction in the same and asked for an easier way to be claimed as a management degree holder. Anurag was ready with the desired path but on a condition of bagging a good amount.
 
Anurag explains, "There are two universities – Techno Global University (Meghalaya) and Shridhar University (Pilani), which will give you the original MBA degree."
 
Pardaphash Member further confirmed that whether it is illegal or real to which he said, “It is illegal but as universities itself provide the degrees, everything is going fine. Students are working in renowned companies by holding the same degrees.”
Investigating further, we came to know that every single detail mentioned in the STEPS’ website hints of something fishy. The contact details, exam helpline numbers, bank account number etc, everything over the website was incorrect. 
 
Meanwhile, STEPS not only run its illicit business in Lucknow but it also has offices in Jaipur (Head Office), Delhi (Centre Head) and Lucknow. STEPS have hired a team of efficient counselors and marketing executives who managed to find such students who for some or the other reasons fail to get a degree on their own.
 
Pardaphash, on numerous occasions, has been a torch bearer in digging out the scams of certain organizations who run the black business of money laundering through education institutes. We have also revealed you that state’s most reputed university Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU) gives admission to students without any entrance test by gulping whopping amount from them.
Sources claim that there are about 90% colleges affiliated to UPTU which undergo the same admission processes.
 

Fake certificate racket busted, 6 held

HYDERABAD: Police busted a fake certificate racket and arrested six persons from a house in Kothapet on Wednesday. They also seized a laptop, a computer, two colour printers, a scanner, a zig-zag cutter, two engraving punches of Osmania and JNTU universities and 69 fake stamps of different educational institutions and universities. 

Deputy commissioner of police (DCP), L B Nagar, D Nagendra Kumar produced the arrested persons and seized material before the media. 

The arrested persons were identified as M Venkateswar Rao, 36, a real estate-cum-share market agent, Mohd Sirazuddin, 37, who was into printing, Shaik Mohd Afzal, 36, a real estate agent, R Sridhar, 28, P Kiran Kumar, 27, a student, and G Kiran Kumar, 25, who works for Avisplyway School, Narsampet in Warangal district. 

On reliable information, police raided the house of Venkateswar Rao at Vishal Residency, Kothpaet on Wednesday at around 8 am and took him into custody. He reportedly confessed to the offence and named others involved in the racket during interrogation. 

Venkateswar Rao, Sirazuddin and Afzal were involved in similar offences earlier and were arrested in 2006 and 2008. 

They used to print fake certificates of Board of Intermediate, State Board of Technical Education, Osmania University, JNTU, Andhra University, Bundelkhand University of Jhansi, Dr B R Ambedkar Open University, AP Nursing Wives/Auxiliary Diploma in Nursing, Dr Bheemrao Ambedkar University of Agra, Gulbarga University, Annamalai University, Kakatiya University, Allahabad University and Chatrapathi Sahuji Maharaj University of Kanpur. 

They used to sell each certificate for Rs 2,000 to Rs 5,000. So far, the accused had sold 150 to 200 fake certificates of different universities, the DCP added.
