Chennai: Police arrested a local person involved in making fake certificates of recognised Indian universities targeted at aspirants of IT and ITES jobs, and has launched a hunt for his accomplice.
Police on Sunday said in a statement that the arrested Kathiresan and one Sivakumar in Hyderabad, who has gone into "hiding", targeted IT and ITES job aspirants since a basic degree was a pre-condition for a "permanent job" in such companies.
The issue came to light following a complaint by a person, who said he was promised a genuine certificate of a recognised university in return for cash, the statement said.
He later filed a complaint and police interrogation of the accused revealed that the duo had cheated many such persons using similar modus operandi, charging between Rs 50,000 and Rs 1.5 lakh, it said, adding, a special team has been formed to nab Sivakumar. Kathiresan was arrested on Sunday.
Police cautioned job-seekers in IT companies and call centres not to approach touts seeking certificates of educational institutions.
