Fake doctor has turned out to be the start of a trail of people with fake documents
Do you want a fake engineering degree from Osmania University? How about an MD certificate from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences? Name it, and for a fee, Vikas Sharma, 31, will deliver it.
The fake doctor uncovered by Bangalore Mirror, who took the patients at Columbia Asia Hospital for a ride, has turned out to be just the beginning of a trail of people with forged papers, who are holding various responsible jobs in hospitals and companies. The HSR layout police, who are investigating the case, have found to their shock that the accused Sharma not only fabricated his own papers, but has performed the service for various other people.
Interior designer Mithun (name changed), on whose complaint the HSR Layout police have caught Sharma, says he is now too scared to go sit in front of any doctor. ''What if the certificates that any doctor shows are fake? How can we believe anything now?'' he asked.
Mithun, a native of New Delhi, discovered that Sharma had stolen the identity of the real Dr Atul Pathak, also from New Delhi, after he tried to verify the doctor's details. BM reported this as 'For five years, leading hospital had no clue that a fraudster was examining patients' on Wednesday.
The police have now found that Sharma also obliged people who wanted anything forged, from PAN cards to RC books and Driver's Licenses.The police have seized pan cards, bank passbooks, driving license, voter ID card and other documents in the name of Dr Atul from Sharma's room in Nagarabhavi. He had also forged a certificate from the RGUHS for a person named Abid Pathan. Police said they had also recovered blank certificates of Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI).
Police said Sharma had been on the verge of using his forgery skills and conning a bank of a loan of Rs 10 lakh. He had reportedly planned to open a clinic in his native Jammu and Kashmir with the money, in the name of 'Dr Pathak'.
Sharma's room mate Hemaraj, a marketing executive, told BM: "We use to call Vikas Sharma as Vicky Bhai, as he claimed to be 38years old. Prior to his arrest, he had had applied for a loan of Rs 10 lakh from a bank in the name of the real Dr Atul Pathak and had planned to open a clinic in J&K. He had given one of his girlfriend's mobile number for reference and had told her to take a house on rent next to that of the real Dr Atul Pathak in Delhi."

Sharma didn't even spare Hemaraj's documents. He took all of Hemaraj's bike documents, scanned and copied them and sent them off to his own brother, Saurab Sharma, in Himachal Pradesh. Hemaraj didn't suspect anything, as, though his documents went missing for a few days, he recovered them.
Hemaraj sai, who has stayed with Sharma from two months, said he overheard him claim to bank officials that he is married. ''He is not. So, on a hunch, I searched the room and found several fake documents. But it was only when Mithun came to me that I realised Vikas had set up everything from the beginning."
Mithun told BM: "I wouldn't have unearthed facts about Vikas without the help of Hemaraj. On being told that Dr Pathak had conned me, Hemaraj spilled the beans stating that the latter's real name was Vikas Sharma.''
