Man held for selling fake Bangalore University certificates
Bangalore: Gone are the days when a student had to wait for a year to clear a failed examination. Manju, 22, a resident of Magadi Road, offered an easy solution to pass a subject in a matter of a few seconds and have a Bangalore University marksheet in your hands.
Following a tip-off, the sleuths of the central crime branch arrested Manju, a school dropout working in a bookstore in Sheshadripuram, who was creating fake Bangalore University documents to help students who had failed the exams.
His modus operandi was to create a false document by colour photocopying the marksheet and writing marks against failed subjects.
On Monday, CCB sleuths received a tip-off from the bookstore, near Bhimas Hotel, where Manju had been working.
The informer, identified as Kiran, said that he had found fake rubber stamps of the Bangalore University in his shop, and expressed suspicion that the certificates were created using a colour photocopier in his establishment.
Kiran also told the police that he suspected one of his employees was involved in selling fake certificates of the Bangalore University.
Following the tip-off, the police kept a watch over the store, and caught Manju.
"The accused, Manju, had a Bangalore University marksheet, which had failed marks in it.
Keeping the seal and signature, he would take a colour photocopy of the marksheet. By changing the numbers in the failed subject he would take another photocopy," the police said.
The police seized 10 fake marksheets and rubber stamps from Manju's residence.
The police said that investigation was on and they were yet to find out how many people had bought the certificates from the youth.
The police said Manju had been selling the fake certificates for amounts ranging between Rs. 50,000 and 1 lakh.
